AUPE offers numerous and ongoing training courses throughout the year. These are continuing education courses offered to members and officers in support of the role they perform in the Union. Courses include Introduction to your Union and Contract Interpretation.
You can find more information on the different course pathways for Union Stewards in this document, and the different levels for Union Stewards here.
We would like to encourage all our members to consider taking the Introduction to your Union Course. This course provides basic information on AUPE including its structure and democratic process. It also addresses two questions: What can the union do for me and what is my responsibility to my union? Members may want to take this course if
- they are new to the Union,
- if they have unanswered questions about what the Union is all about or
- if they are considering becoming more active within AUPE.
Courses are free. In fact, AUPE pays SAIT for you to attend your course. So, if you attend a two day AUPE training course, AUPE will pay SAIT your salary for two days which also means that you don't have to take vacation time off to attend and lunch if provided for the majority of the courses.
Courses are scheduled based on demand and will be offered once the required number of members have registered.
Once the list for a particular course reaches the numbers required to hold the course, we arrange the location based on where the majority of registrants live. Registered members will be contacted with the proposed date(s) and location for the course. Once all the details are confirmed, registration and time offs will be sent out. Courses are held at regional offices throughout the province.
Members can use hours accumulated in our education programming towards a certificate or a degree with Athabasca University. Scholarships and bursaries are available to AUPE members pursuing post-secondary education through our Member Education Assistance Fund.
